With the new year comes what we all eagerly anticipate: a new anime season! The upcoming anime winter 2024 season is stacked.
Coming off a season that was pretty casual for me, I don’t know how I’m going to fit all of these in. Sure I’ll manage as I always do (who needs a life, am I right?). Let’s get to it, shall we?
Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu, 2nd Season
Might come as no surprise if you follow me, but I love this series. The excitement I felt when I learned about season 2 was immeasurable. Now, if only we could get a western release! GAH!
Boku no Kokoro no Yabai Yatsu, Season 2
I had originally put this as an honorable mention when it aired, but I gave it a shot and it was great. Look forward to season 2 of this sweet rom-com.
Shin no Nakama ja Nai to Yuusha no Party wo Oidasare ta node, Henkyou de Slow Life suru Koto ni Shimashita 2nd
While I’m kind of surprised this got another season, I’m super happy about it. It needed more attention, and I can’t wait for this second season of Banished From the Hero’s Party. Can never get enough of Rit, Gideon, and Ruti. And Ugeuge-san, of course.
Urusei Yatsura (2022), 2nd Season
A continuation of such a fun series reboot? Hell yeah! Let’s hope for more awesome OP and ED songs.
Hikari no Ou, 2nd Season
I feel like the animation style for this one turned a lot of people off, but the story and world are so fascinating that it really shouldn’t deter you. I really want to see where this goes.
Can we agree that this title is to the point? Instant Death abilities are probably the pinnacle of OP protagonist skills. I’ve been reading the manga for this for a while. It’s really goofy and doesn’t take itself seriously. Go in expecting some silliness and it should be a fun time.
Tales of Wedding Rings was a series I read a fair amount of a while back, though I had to put it on the back burner for a while. Seeing it get an adaptation is exciting. Romance, harem, fantasy? Totally up my alley, so I’ll definitely check it out.
Some people I know have been hyping up Hokkaido Gals Are Super Adorable for a long time now. Before I could even check out the manga, they announced the anime. While I don’t know much other than it being a romantic comedy (which alone is probably enough for me to watch), the positive comments I’ve heard have me even more excited.
I first encountered The Foolish Angel Dances with the Devil on social media. It has such a weird concept, but this is shaping up to be a funny anime. Supposedly has romantic subtext too, which I’m always in favor of.
I feel we’ve been seeing more series focused on characters with disabilities lately. It really adds another dimension to things. Either way, I expect this will be a very sweet romance anime, so you know I’ll be there.
All I can say is thank you HiDive for giving us the uncensored version. Another one that people have been talking about in the circles I run in. I can’t speak to the contents of the series, but I expect the ecchi parts to be pretty… umm… yeah. Don’t make me say it.
I love a good supernatural romance anime. With it being shoujo, I expect them to do it properly too. Can’t wait to check this out.
Cool to see a series that’s been completed for a while now get an adaptation. Not only that, but it’s getting THREE WHOLE COURS. Super rare to see that (with series I’m interested in, at least). Hope it holds up.
I vocally said “What??” when I read the synopsis for this. The trailer just furthered this. I feel like this one’s got a lot of potential, so I’ll definitely see how it goes.
Yet another anime based on being reincarnated into an otome game. Honestly, haven’t been let down by these yet really, so I hope the trend continues.
Loop 7-kaime no Akuyaku Reijou wa, Moto Tekikoku de Jiyuu Kimama na Hanayome Seikatsu wo Mankitsu suru
Another reincarnation shoujo. After just finishing Tearmoon Empire, I’m hoping to enjoy this one as well. I expect it to be quite different (Tearmoon Empire was very interesting, think I commented on it just about every week), but it should still be good.
I started checking out the manga for a bit, but haven’t gotten far yet. I’m actually not sure where I stand on this one, as it could be a reasonably good isekai or it could not. Wish I had more to say on this, but I’ll just watch and see.
We got a redemption reincarnation anime this time. And, wouldn’t you know it, it’s shoujo again. Lot of shoujo anime on the list this time. Hmm. Either way, I would expect this one to be pretty chill. (Now I sit back and watch this be the most dramatic anime this season…)
I expect this will be the one this season that should probably be in the honorable mentions. Oh well, I got a soft spot for tanks (may or may not be my go-to role in games…). Manga was enjoyable enough for me to want to watch this. Hope I’m not disappointed.
Jaku-Chara Tomozaki-kun 2nd Stage – Like I’ve done the past few seasons, a sequel for a series I haven’t watched, but looks interesting. Going to try and binge the first season asap.
Saijaku Tamer wa Gomi Hiroi no Tabi wo Hajimemashita – I’ve heard this is surprisingly dramatic despite the seemingly laid-back premise. Not sure I’m going to check it out, but I’ll keep an eye on how it’s received by the community.
Nozomanu Fushi no Boukensha – Undead adventurer running around doing things. Hmm. I mean, this has happened recently (with a different premise of course). I’ll have to see how the characters and interactions are.
Himesama Goumon no Jikan desu – This one’s basically pure comedy and cuteness, despite the title. The lack of anything deeper puts this as a maybe for me, but will likely be a fun one.
Meitou “Isekai no Yu” Kaitakuki: Around 40 Onsen Mania no Tensei Saki wa, Nonbiri Onsen Tengoku deshita – I suspect this one lives or dies with its fanservice. About all I have to say here.
Majo to Yajuu – Really unsure if I’ll watch this. I could anticipate it getting a lot of attention though. Looks pretty wild.
Ore dake Level Up na Ken – Bet you’re surprised it’s down here. I’m honestly not sold on Solo Leveling, despite all the hype it’s been getting. So, down here it goes.
So there we go. Once again, I’m going to be suuuuuuuuuuper busy. Not a bad thing, though I don’t look forward to trying to figure out my daily watching schedule…
Noticed there’s quite a few shoujo this season too. I feel like I pick a theme for each season, and I’d probably call it the shoujo season if I was to pick.
Either way, there’s a lot of excellent anime to look forward to as we transition to the new year.
Also, a shameless plug here, I’m sure you noticed I didn’t post much recently. I’ve recently released my book online, the project I alluded to ages ago now. Go check it out at one of the links below (these links are not affiliate links or anything, just links to my work). I welcome any and all support!
