This feels like a trend… Once again, I don’t know how I’m going to juggle all of the anime coming out in the summer 2023 season. There’s way too many I want to watch, but I guess it’s better than not having enough.
Not only do we have quite a few anime returning for a second season, but also a ton of potentially good new ones. I didn’t put it on the list, but Maou Gakuin no Futekigousha is also making its return. When it rains, it pours, am I right? I’ll try to keep the comments short so this doesn’t get too lengthy. Well, let’s get into it.
Sequels
Sugar Apple Fairy Tale, Part 2

Season 1 was excellent, and definitely left off on a cliffhanger. Super pumped for season 2. Nothing else to say. See my last post if you want to know my thoughts.
Mushoku Tensei II

Another incredible series making its return this season. Just an amazing isekai all around. If you like isekai, you probably know of this one, so let’s just move on.
Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid, 2nd Season

I literally binge watched the first season to see if I’d want to check out season 2. Well, here it is, on this list. Season 1 got me really excited, and I can’t wait to see the next season.
Ooyukiumi no Kaina: Hoshi no Kenja
I was skeptical of the CGI when I first encountered Kaina of the Great Snow Sea, but it quickly became one of my favorite anime of the season. As such, I’m very excited for this movie to hopefully get a satisfying conclusion.
Rurouni Kenshin: Meiji Kenkaku Romantan

Okay, not TECHNICALLY a sequel, but a remake. I enjoyed the manga tremendously, so I’d be interested in watching this.
New Series
Suki na Ko ga Megane wo Wasureta

I’ve heard a lot of good things about this series from the various anime circles I’m in. Heard it’s cute, looks cute, so definitely checking this out.
Level 1 dakedo Unique Skill de Saikyou desu
I originally was kind of meh on this one. Had read one chapter of the manga and put it on hold. When the anime was announced, I decided I should go read it. Still not the greatest thing in the world, but I will say I am enjoying it, so I’ll stick this here and hope it doesn’t let me down. Will probably end up being a generic “this is fine” type of anime.
Jitsu wa Ore, Saikyou deshita?

Another isekai, but I anticipate liking this more than the previous entry on this list. The manga, at least, feels like it takes a very non-serious approach, with intentionally corny moments and such. Hope I enjoy it as much as the manga.
Dark Gathering

Horror is one of those difficult genres for me. I like the looming threat stuff and general creepiness, but hate seeing characters I love brutalized (as often happens in horror). From what I’ve seen, I think this’ll be a good horror, in my book, so I’m looking forward to it. The question now is do I watch it as it airs, or save it for a binge in October? Hmm…
Liar Liar

Got a games-focused series here. These tend to be pretty intense, and it not being a death game means it shouldn’t be too high stakes. We’re free to like characters without expecting their deaths!
Nanatsu no Maken ga Shihai suru

I want to believe this one will be good. The manga is already on my to-read list (though I haven’t gotten around to it yet), and the plot looks fairly interesting. We’ll see how it pans out.
Uchi no Kaisha no Chiisai Senpai no Hanashi

If you’ve been on social media, you’ve probably already seen this one mentioned. I’ll never understand the outcry of the petite female characters in series like this and Uzaki-chan. Either way, I think it looks cute as hell, so I’ll definitely be watching.
Shiro Seijo to Kuro Bokushi

I wasn’t sure what to make of this when I first read the premise. The trailer and learning it’s a 4-koma series pretty much sold me on it. I hope it’s as funny and cute as the trailer made it seem.
Yume Miru Danshi wa Genjitsushugisha
The premise seems fine, but I do have some concerns. It’s listed as comedy, but I feel like there’ll be drama ahead. I hope we get a satisfying relationship conclusion (even if it doesn’t happen this season). I do love tsundere girls, so I think I’ll like the female lead.
Higeki no Genkyou to Naru Saikyou Gedou Last Boss Joou wa Tami no Tame ni Tsukushimasu

While I may not be the target audience, josei and shoujo otome game isekais have been proving to be very good lately. Pair this with positive reviews of the source works, and I think this might be a dark horse this season for most.
Temple
Wow, a short title for once. Anywho, looks like an ecchi harem romance. The premise doesn’t really stand out to me, but I do enjoy this genre typically. It’ll depend on execution, but I’ll be optimistic.
Watashi no Shiawase no Kekkon

Shoujo romance, once again. I’ve said it quite a bit, but shoujo series tend to do romance very well, with the right amount of drama and romance. More than that, the drama and romance are often written well too. I’m expecting this to be very good, and to make me smile more times than I can count.
Honorable Mentions
Spy Kyoushitsu 2nd Season – While not the most insanely good series, and doesn’t really fall into my typical genres, but season 1 was a fun watch, so I’ll probably check out season 2.
Masamune-kun no Revenge R – Truthfully, I haven’t seen season 1. Despite that, this looks like it could be good, so I’ll probably binge watch the first season so I can check out season 2.
Hataraku Maou-sama!! 2nd Season – This one has me on the fence. First season was good, the second season was kind of mediocre. This third season (and yes, it’s the third season. Confusing, I know…) will have to make a pretty big shift for me to be good.
Eiyuu Kyoushitsu – I’m always burned by series like this, so I’m erring on the side of caution this time. The premise seems kind of generic, but that’s not inherently bad in my book. It’ll probably depend on how the cast feels and interacts together, or how the comedy is. Watch me be wrong again and it turn out to be incredible. I’d be cool with that.
Ryza no Atelier – In all honesty, I haven’t played the game. Not sure if this’ll end up being spoilers for that or not, so might not watch it. Should be fun though, especially if you’re a fan of the game.
Okashi na Tensei – Pastry chef. Okay. While I feel like this one will be kind of meh in my book, I figured the same thing with Cheat Kusushi no Slow Life (or “isekai drugstore” as I usually refer to it as) but it turned out to be pretty fun. Either way, honorable mention seems like the right place to put it.
Seija Musou: Salaryman, Isekai de Ikinokoru Tame ni Ayumu Michi – Same thing as Okashi na Tensei. Could be fun, could be boring. The synopsis doesn’t really help clarify anything either. I’m honestly not sure, so I’ll need to wait and see.
Okay, that’s it. Are these lists getting longer every season? Feels like it… Either way, it’s done. Catch you in the next one.
