As it gets unbearably (in my opinion) hot outside, we are greeted with another season of anime. A couple of these I’ve been excited for since they announced them, but most are entirely new to me. But, looking over the list, these are the ones I’ll be checking out. Let’s dive into the upcoming anime summer 2022 season!
This time around, I’m going to start with any sequels on the list, then get into the new ones. Past that, though, no particular order.
Sequels
Hataraku Maou-sama!, Season 2

The Devil is a Part-Timer was a fun series, so I’m excited to see a second season. We do have a different studio working on it this time, so a slightly different art style, but it should be fine.
Kanojo, Okarishimasu, Season 2

Another season of Rent-a-Girlfriend is all good in my book. Not much else to say, so let’s continue.
Dungeon ni Deai wo Motomeru no wa Machigatteiru Darou ka, Season 4

I admit it, I enjoy Danmachi, or Is It Wrong to Try to Pick Up Girls in a Dungeon. Just my kind of anime, I guess. Either way, getting yet another season, so woo!
Shadows House, Season 2

Let’s fucking goooooooooo! If you didn’t read my post on season 1, I can sum it up by saying I really enjoyed it. While I’ll probably save this for October this time, still a series I’m excited for.
Utawarerumono: Futari no Hakuoro

Another admission: I’m a fan of the Utawarerumono series. As such, this automatically gets a spot on this list.
New Series

While I don’t know much about When Will Ayumu Make His Move?, it looks like it could be a pretty cute rom-com. If it wasn’t clear from some of my other posts, I love rom-coms, so I’ll be watching this. Plus, shogi is cool.

I’d probably put this in my guilty pleasure pile. I’ve been reading the manga for a while now, and was super pumped to hear it was getting an anime. I fully expect it to be heavily censored though, which I’m sure isn’t a shock to anyone who has read the manga, but I’m sure it’ll still be enjoyable. I might actually put this in my top 10 isekai list (if I did those, that is).

I’m not sure what this is, really. It’s got some rom-com mixed with sci-fi action. I don’t know what category this really falls into, but it looks interesting. Hope it’s as good as it looks.

Probably better known to us in the West as Lucifer and the Biscuit Hammer. I read this manga years ago, and I still remember it fondly. It’s a pretty short series, so I’m curious if they’ll fit the whole thing into this series. Either way, I’d definitely say this is worth checking out this season.

Got another isekai. Kuro no Shoukanshi will probably lean more on the action and power fantasy than Isekai Meikyuu de Harem wo, so if that’s your jam, this would be one to check out.
Honorable Mentions
Yeah, this post has been long, but we still have a few honorable mentions. Let’s bang these out.
Yofukashi no Uta – Call of the Night looks to be a vampire romance, but the synopsis and trailers didn’t show much. I’m hoping it’s good (I like vampire romance stories), but it’s hard to say from what little information we’re working with.
Mamahaha no Tsurego ga Motokano datta – Another “step-sibling is my ex” plot. I usually like these, so it’ll probably be fine, but it’ll depend on how well I like the characters.
Tensei Kenja no Isekai Life: Dai-2 no Shokugyou wo Ete, Sekai Saikyou ni Narimashita – Power fantasy isekai. I think I got eight chapters into the manga before putting it on hold. Last time I did that was with The Strongest Sage with the Weakest Crest, and we all know how that turned out… As such, off to the honorable mentions with this one!
Kinsou no Vermeil: Gakeppuchi Majutsushi wa Saikyou no Yakusai to Mahou Sekai wo Tsukisusumu – Are these titles getting longer on this list? Anyway, the plot didn’t seem super interesting, and seemed to use its fanservice as a crutch. Nothing wrong with that if it’s what you’re looking for, but I’ll have to wait and see how this one pans out.
Kumichou Musume to Sewagakari – The idea of yakuza babysitting is kind of funny, but the trailers didn’t seem to show comedy really. Seems more like a thug finds his softer side while caring for a kid. Could be a dark horse this season, or could be mediocre. Only time will tell.
RWBY – Finally, a short title! *ahem* It’s an adaptation of the RWBY series, which I enjoyed. Not a lot to say, so let’s keep this moving.
Lycoris Recoil – The trailer didn’t make it seem too interesting, but the synopsis did. No idea what to expect from this one at this point, but I hope it’s closer to the synopsis than the trailer.
Bucchigire! – This one looked okay, but it’ll depend on execution probably. Earned its spot here mostly because I like the time period.
Okay, there we go. Wow, that was a long one. Going to wrap this up so I can watch some anime. Let me know what series you’re most interested in for the upcoming season, and I’ll catch you next time. Oh, and let me know if you like me separating the sequels from the rest. Okay, later!
