After that sad post I made a couple weeks ago, I’m bringing something positive: the upcoming anime season! This season was a bit different for me, given the collection of series we have coming down the pipe, but there’s always something good to be excited for. So, as we move into these unbearably hot summer months, let’s see what anime are coming in hot on my radar (my puns are bad, forgive me for making you read that…).
Going to start out with getting these two out of the way.
Tensei shitara Slime Datta Ken, Season 2, Part 2

We are getting the second half of the second season of the well-received That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime. If you’re a fan of the series, seems like a must-watch this season. If not, check it out, though I’d prooooooobably say you should check out season 1 first.
Kobayashi-san Chi no Maid Dragon S

Season 2 of the most moe dragon maid in existence. Not the most crowded field, sure, but still holds that title. As with the previous entry on this list, if you watched season 1, you have probably already decided for yourself if you’ll watch it. So, with these two out of the way, let’s keep this train moving.
Cheat Kusushi no Slow Life Isekai ni Tsukurou Drugstore

I had come across this series as I was looking for new manga to read and was a bit underwhelmed, so decided to pass on it. When I saw it was getting an anime, I decided I should at least check out a few chapters to see how it was. Well, let’s just say I blew through the available chapters in a day or so.
This series is a nice, chill isekai series. From what I saw in the manga, it’s got some good humor, varied cast of characters, and has a laid-back plot. If you enjoy isekai and slice of life, I’d check this one out.
Mahoutsukai no Yome: Nishi no Shounen to Seiran no Kishi

So, when I was saying this was a unique season, the OVA for The Aancient Magus’ Bride is the start of what I mean. Typically I wouldn’t put OVAs on this list, but it looks like a solid addition to a solid anime, so I decided it deserved a place. The atmosphere it brings really sells me, so hopefully it’s as good as it looked.

Another rare thing to add to the list, we have a movie. I was getting some Summer Wars vibes from this (which is a good thing, if you haven’t watched it). The mix of real world and digital world in the story, as well as the changing animation style between the two, I think should work well. I hope I’ll be looking to add this to my movie collection.
Shika no Ou: Yuna to Yakusoku no Tabi

I didn’t anticpate putting TWO movies on this list, but here we are. The plot synopsis was pretty vague, so I actually had to base this decision on what I was seeing in the trailer. Not usually a smart thing to do, but meh. Looks cool, hope the plot is cool to match.
Tsuki ga Michibiku Isekai Douchuu

As if I would leave this off my list, after I sang its praises in my manga post. As with Mushoku Tensei, this may be one of the series I’m most excited for this year. It’s got an enjoyable plot, good characters, and is just overall solid. I just really hope I’m not disappointed.
Honorable Mentions
Okay, let’s do a few rapid-fire honorable mentions before we wrap this up.
100-man no Inochi no Ue ni Ore wa Tatteiru, Season 2 – Okay, to be honest, I wasn’t even aware that there was a season 1… Please don’t berate me with angry comments. I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read of the manga, so it may be good, but I can’t put it on the list without having watched the first season to know how they adapted it. Just wouldn’t feel right.
Vanitas no Carte – Seemed like a neat vampire story (and I do love those), but I just don’t know enough about it to go all-in on it. I’ll probably still check it out, but for now, it’s relegated to an honorable mention.
Shinigami Bocchan to Kuro Maid – At first, it seemed like it was right up my alley. But, ugh. The CGI just bothers me so much. If, unlike Ryuu to Sobakasu no Hime, they use it for the whole series, I’m not sure I could tolerate it. That being said, if you’re okay with the CGI, the story seems promising.
And there we go. This may be the first time I’ve had this many movies or OVAs on my list. I hope we get some excellent anime to watch this summer. Let me know what series you’re most excited for, and I’ll see you in the next post.
